Beach Bums Kalua Pork Sandwich
Submitted by: corky Powell
Kalua pork is a Hawaiian specialty. This recipes uses a crock pot to cook pork butt with liquid smoke and brown sugar. The meat is shredded and served on Hawaiian sweet bread.
Ingredients
- Crock pot style...
- 1, 2-3 lb. pork butt, frozen
- 2 cups water
- 1 tbsp. liquid smoke
- 1 cup brown sugar, add last, over top
- 2 Tbsp. sea salt, Hawaiian, if possible
- Fresh shredded cabbage

Method
Place the above in a crock pot; cover; cook on medium 8-10 hours. I do it overnight to be ready for the beach. Pork will fall apart when done. Shred meat in crock pot, pulling bone out. It should come out clean. Toast bread, if you like. Pile high with Kalua pork, top with cabbage and you're done.
Notes: This is too simple to sound good but works. If doing pork in the oven add all the stuff to a roasting pan, add 4 cups water, cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for about 3-4 hours. Check--may need more water but maybe not; the pork butt is full of water.
Number of Servings: 6-8
